Katie is a writer, lecturer, photographer and all year-round open water sea swimmer. Katie Maggs lectures in Health Studies and is Deputy Head of Department at a Further Education College in Cornwall. As an all year round, open water sea swimmer Katie documents her journey through her outdoor wild swimming photography and popular publications in online and in print UK magazines.
In her award winning short film - Tonic of the Sea– nominated for the BAFTA short films award, Katie tells her story of how swimming all year round off the Cornish coast has helped her to overcome stress related burnout and anxiety. Upon the completion of her first self-help book ‘Tonic of the Sea’ (currently awaiting publication) Katie will be holding an exhibition of her inspirational portrait photography in the Spring of this year. The exhibition will provide visitors with the opportunity to speak to experienced wild swimmers in a bid to gain essential advice when it comes to staying safe in the water and when considering the many benefits to health and wellbeing of all year round open water wild swimming.
