Protecting the Gower

An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

The Gower is a protected landscape with stunning views, 17,000 acres of commons, marshes, and farmland. Home to rare wildlife and free-roaming animals, it's vital we all do our part to protect this special place.

Let’s work together to protect Gower’s nature and wildlife for future generations.
Thank you and enjoy your stay!

Be Respectful on the Trails

We feel incredibly lucky to run here, and we know you’ll love it too.

To help protect the land and the trails, we ask all runners to follow a few simple rules:

✅ Stay on marked paths and follow the route marking signs
✅ Close gates behind you, even if you didn’t open them
✅ Give plenty of space to livestock and wildlife
✅ Be considerate and share the trails with other walkers, locals, and runners
✅Carry out everything you bring in - we will disqualify anyone caught littering
✅ Leave the music at the festival - NO music is allowed out on the trail races
✅ Tread lightly and help us honour our ‘Leave No Trace’ commitment

PLEASE KEEP NOISE TO A RESPECTFUL LEVEL especially when going past houses where people may be working or getting on with their day to day lives.

The Gower is home to farmers, families, livestock, and so much history. With your care, we can continue to celebrate and protect it for many years to come.

Help us protect the area

  • These animals help maintain the land and footpaths. Do not feed, touch, or approach them.

  • Dogs must be on leads at all times. Dog attacks on livestock and people are a serious issue.

  • Feeding animals you don’t own is illegal and can cause illness or death.

  • Stay on footpaths. Some fields grow food or contain livestock.

  • Do not climb gates or fences. Use official footpaths and crossings.

  • Always bag and bin dog waste. It spreads disease that can harm or kill livestock.

  • Slow to 10 mph near animals.

  • Give animals at least 2 metres of space when passing.

  • Animals have the right of way. Be prepared to stop at any time.

  • Do not take selfies with animals. They are semi-feral and can behave unpredictably.

  • Livestock with young may charge if they feel threatened. Keep your distance, especially if you have a dog.

  • If you are involved in an incident with an animal, report it immediately to South Wales Police:999 (emergency) | 101 (non-emergency)
