Multi-day Ultra Prep & Racing - How to Prepare to Race for a Multi-Stage Race

Join Matt Buck, experienced multi stage ultra runner, Salomon athlete and owner of Running Adventures for a whirlwind tour of everything multi stage. Matt has completed numerous multi stage ultras around the world, including the Berghaus Dragons Back Race and the Marathon Des Sables, and trains runners of all abilities, helping them to achieve their goals. This workshop will give you a clear understanding of what it takes to stand on the start line of a multi stage ultra, confident of success.

  • How to train for a multistage race and the super important ‘rehearsal week’.

Navigation Skills for Running

Find the freedom to run in the mountains. Its most runners dream to run free without a care through mountainous terrain, but one thing stops most, how to navigate. With this basic, but essential skill you can access those places that let your heart sing and your soul become nourished.

  • How to read a map, identify features, understand a compass and set a bearing using both the map and compass in conjunction with each other
  • Handy tips to keep you on your toes and help you to know exactly where you are all the time
  • How to re-locate yourself, if you do happen to become 'miss placed' (as a navigator, you are never lost!!)

Most recently Matt headed for a solo trail run along uphillthe Historical Way in Portugal, which was later featured in both Men’s Running and Trail Running Magazine.

How to Improve Your Running Technique

James is a runner, burrito lover, and leads Midnight Runners in London. He's been running about 4 years and more seriously for the last 2. He loves racing - any surface, any distance! Training hard and continuously learning has yielded results - he qualified for Championship entry at London Marathon, came 5th in the CTS Dorset Ultramarathon and can run a 4:34 mile. When not running he is nerding out over technology and coffee.

Walking and Running with Poles

Poles remove 30% of the pressure from your ankle's, knee's & hips and transfer it to your upper body, this saves your lower limb joints from too much pounding. Using your poles effectively increases your forward propulsion and increases speed. Many runners walk hills and to use poles on the hills will gain you place after place.

  • How to use them when you are running, what to do with them on the downhills and when to put them in your pack.

A strength and conditioning workshop that will cover the key human movements and how to use them to optimise performance, and limit injury and pain. In this interactive workshop, you will be exercising and experiencing the key movement & learning how to apply what you learn into your running training.

Join Paul as he offers a live demonstration of physio treatment, whilst explaining how to self treat, and stay free from injury. If you want to be a volunteer please ensure you are otherwise in good general health and happy to sign a waiver form ahead of any treatment.
