Flex Stage Partner: Why We Run

Move

Flex Stage Partner: Why We Run
ABOUT

WhyWeRun is more than an endurance event. It’s a movement that redefines what it means to run. It’s about pushing limits, forging connections, and discovering who you truly are out there on the trails.

The movement was born in late 2022, when a race cancellation led a group of runners to create their own event. One without competition, where the focus wasn’t on pace or results, but on the journey itself while raising money to help others. Since then, the annual 250km multistage event has raised over £150,000 for bigmoose, funding therapy sessions for those in need and proving that running can be a force for change.

Unlike traditional ultras, WhyWeRun is not a race. There are no cut-offs, no podiums, only the freedom to move however feels right. Whether running alone in quiet reflection, alongside others for support, or a mix of both, every step is an opportunity to challenge yourself and explore your own path.

But WhyWeRun is more than just an individual experience, it thrives on the connections built along the way. Conversations that carry you through tough stretches, shared moments of struggle and joy, the silent understanding between runners moving together... it's the people that make the journey unforgettable.

As WhyWeRun continues to grow, its dedicated team is expanding the movement beyond the event itself. With a growing network of endurance coaches, a run club, merchandise, partnerships, and content that spreads its message to a wider audience, WhyWeRun is evolving into something bigger than running alone.

At its core, it's about more than endurance. It’s about people.

Adelah Bilal

Movement

Adelah Bilal
ABOUT

Adelah's journey into yoga started as a way to heal from a knee injury, purely as a physical practice. But after years of chasing the "perfect pose" (and collecting even more injuries along the way!), she realized there was so much more to yoga than just the shapes. Exploring the other limbs of yoga transformed her practice into something deeper—thoughtful, loving movement guided by breath rather than ego.

Inspired to create an inclusive space, Adelah began teaching for those who felt out of place in traditional yoga studios—people who didn’t see themselves represented in yoga but could still benefit from its magic.

Her classes are rooted in vinyasa flow, but with a twist—more freedom, more fluidity, and way less rigidity. Instead of forcing your body into poses, you’ll be encouraged to listen, explore, and move in a way that feels good for you. Expect playful sequences, creative transitions, and a practice that invites you to find your own rhythm.

Grant Grego (Why We Run)

Movement

Grant Grego (Why We Run)
ABOUT

Grant Grego is someone who just wants to improve 1% everyday, he is a coach, and advocate for the transformative power of endurance sports. With an impressive background that includes multiple multistage ultramarathons, a Double Distance Ironman, and four 100-mile ultramarathons in just 22 weeks, not to mention multiple sub-3-hour marathon. Grant has continually pushed the boundaries of physical and mental endurance.

Their journey into ultrarunning began as a way to navigate life. Particularly during the challenges of lockdown. Initially using running as an escape, they soon realized that endurance sports could be a tool for self-discovery rather than avoidance. This realization, combined with therapy and a reframing of their relationship with sport, led them to a deeper appreciation for the ultrarunning community and the personal growth it fosters.

Now, Grant is dedicated to helping others find their own path in endurance sports. Whether through tailored training programs or by sharing their own experiences, they aim to inspire and support runners of all levels. Their recent participation in the Ultra X Madeira 110km, where they embraced the joy of running without a rigid performance goal, reflects their evolved philosophy: that movement should be about freedom, exploration, and connection rather just results.

Beyond their own racing and coaching, Grant is passionate about using endurance sports as a vehicle for mental resilience and personal growth. Their story is one of evolution, to someone who sees running as a way to connect, heal, and give back to the community that has given them so much.

James Cooke (Why We Run)

Movement

James Cooke (Why We Run)
ABOUT

James (aka Cookie) discovered running later in life, lacing up his trainers in 2017 as a way to improve both his physical and mental health. What started as a casual 5K, driven by the classic “how hard can it be?” mindset, quickly became something much bigger. Swapping the pint glass for starting lines, he embraced the challenge, progressing through 10Ks, half marathons, and marathons before ultimately finding his true passion: ultra running.

With his sights set on a grueling 250km multi-stage race, the journey was anything but smooth. Injuries and setbacks meant it took three attempts to finally reach the finish line. But along the way, he discovered that the real lessons weren’t found at the end, rather, they came from the process of trying, failing, and trying again. In 2024, he was diagnosed with REDs and has spent the past year focusing on recovery. Now, with renewed strength, he’s back to training and gearing up for the MCC in Chamonix this August.

Ultra running has taken him to incredible places around the world, but more importantly, it has connected him with an inspiring community of like-minded people. Beyond racing, he’s found just as much joy in crewing and supporting others, helping them chase their own finish lines. Because at the heart of it all, running isn’t just about the miles, it’s about the people, the stories, and the shared pursuit of something bigger than ourselves.
